“As experienced practitioners and researchers in obstetrics and gynaecology, we affirm that direct abortion – the purposeful destruction of the unborn child – is not medically necessary to save the life of a woman.
We uphold that there is a fundamental difference between abortion, and necessary medical treatments that are carried out to save the life of the mother, even if such treatment results in the loss of life of her unborn child.
We confirm that the prohibition of abortion does not affect, in any way, the availability of optimal care to pregnant women.”
I don’t know who keeps spreading this lie, but I don’t care if you’re pro-choice or pro-life—you NEED TO KNOW that pregnancy ABSOLUTELY can be a life threat to the pregnant person, and abortion ABSOLUTELY can save that pregnant person’s life.
I, myself, had to have my PLANNED AND WANTED pregnancy terminated in order to save my life. I had THREE opinions from three different OBGYN’s who DID NOT PROVIDE ABORTION SERVICES (i.e.—they would not profit from an abortion, and would in fact lose money from me/my insurance if I terminated), and they all said the baby and I would absolutely not survive the pregnancy.
In the sobering words of the last doctor I saw: “I would count it a literal miracle if you somehow survived past 20 weeks. You and your child are assured death if you proceed with this pregnancy. By terminating, you have a much better chance of at least saving your own life.”
I was so sick I was confined to my bed, forced to stop working for over a month, had lost 15 pounds by the sixth week, could not walk by myself, use the bathroom by myself, and would pass out if I tried to stand up. After I had my abortion, I almost IMMEDIATELY recovered, was able to live independently, and returned to work.
Listen, I don’t care what you personally believe—you’re entitled to your own opinions. But this is not up for discussion. This is not an opinion. This is fact: pregnancy absolutely can, has, and will pose a life-threat to many pregnant people whose lives can be saved through abortion.
Please stop spreading downright lies about medical facts.
Also, when we say it can save the life of the pregnant person, we’re not always referring to the pregnancy itself as a health risk. But we’re referring to the alternative option if someone can’t get a safe and legal abortion that they want and need. There are 47,000 pregnant people who die every single year around the world from unsafe abortions, and 61% of those seeking abortions are already parents. So if someone is backed into a corner and desperate enough, they will put their lives in danger in order to stop a pregnancy. If they die, so does the fetus, and since 61% of people seeking abortion are already parents, there’s also the possibility of them leaving their kids orphaned.
So, dead parent, dead fetus and orphaned kids. I’m pretty sure none of that sounds pro-life.
In other words, OP, how about you go smell the scratch and sniff at the bottom of the pool?
